Other types of Eating Disorders
ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder)
ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) is an eating disorder characterized by extreme picky eating, limited food intake, or strong aversions to certain textures, smells, or fears around eating (like choking or vomiting). Unlike other eating disorders, ARFID is not driven by body image concerns. It can lead to nutritional deficiencies, weight loss, and social challenges.
Orthorexia
Orthorexia is an unhealthy obsession with eating only foods considered “clean,” “pure,” or healthy. While it may start with good intentions, it can lead to rigid food rules, anxiety around eating, social isolation, and nutritional imbalances. Orthorexia is not officially classified as an eating disorder but can be serious and damaging to both physical and mental health.
