- Extreme weight loss;
- Intense fear & refusal of weight gain or maintaining appropriate weight;
- Possible loss of menstrual cycle;
- Extreme negative perception of body image (seeing self as fat even when under weight);
- Individuals may restrict calories or purge calories by vomiting, using laxatives/diuretics, or expressive exercise
Common warning signs:
Dramatic weight loss and denial of hunger, skipping meals or making excuses to avoid meals, avoiding food, categorizing food by "good/bad or safe/unsafe", wearing heavy clothing or covering up to hide weight loss, depression and/or anxiety, withdrawal from others, perfectionism, creation of food rituals/rules, excessive exercise, poor body image and low self-esteem, etc.
